We have started our reading groups and Kindergartners are excited and working hard each day.
Our reading teacher (CSR) Ms. Aulbach, comes daily and takes several reading groups. Other students read with Ms. Nelson Linck. We are reading leveled books, practicing sight words and practicing writing. We are teaching what I refer to as the mechanics of reading, putting letters together to make sounds, sounds make words, words make sentences. Sentences are how people speak, put all these skills together and we're reading! Please continue to read to your child daily for the love of reading. Special stories and story books help children predict plot, use their imagination and hear the printed word aloud, a different skill than learning "mechanics." Children soon make the connection that they are learning to read because it opens a new world of fantasy, exploration and adventure. It is also important that children see you reading, they learn it is a valuable skill and they will want to imitate what is important to you.
